Transforming Europe's Socio-Economic Analytical Platform

Eurofound MPI Tool

About this project

Eurofound reached out to Imaginary Cloud to move their existing Proof of Concept (PoC) for the MPI Tool (Multidimensional Progress Index tool) into a fully functional, intuitive, and robust analytical platform. We built it through our Agile development process.

Result: The new MPI Tool delivers a significantly enhanced user experience, vastly improved performance, and gives the Eurofound team full autonomy over data management through a custom back-office solution.

The EU Agency supporting better policies for a strong social Europe

The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (Eurofound) is a tripartite European Union Agency, whose role is to provide knowledge to assist in the development of better social, employment and work-related policies.

Eurofound’s website serves as a key platform, sharing research and advice on crucial topics like working conditions, industrial relations, quality of life, and labour market changes. By offering comparative analysis, Eurofound empowers EU institutions, Member States, and Social Partners to shape and implement effective policies and foster essential social dialogue.

Imaginary Cloud’s role and involvement with Eurofound

Our team undertook a complete end-to-end overhaul of the MPI Tool, managing the entire lifecycle from initial research and design through to final deployment and delivery.

The process began with our Product Designer, who analysed the existing tool, identified key user pain points, and collaborated closely with the client. This research led to a clear and intuitive user flow, mapping the entire user journey, from the landing page introduction to the successful download of a custom simulation.

The Project Manager provided essential oversight throughout the design and development phases, ensuring strict adherence to timelines and core project goals. This role was also instrumental in facilitating smooth, critical communication and decision-making between the design team and the client.

The Full-Stack Developer then architected and led the development. This involved engineering both the responsive front-end interface and the complex back-end logic, including the critical migration of all legacy content. Crucially, the developer also built a complete custom back-office system, providing the client with a non-technical interface to easily manage all content, dimensions, and sub-dimensions themselves, ensuring long-term autonomy.

Used for engineering the responsive user interface and the custom back-office data management system, creating a modern and type-safe platform.

Used for architecting the back-end logic, complex calculations, data migration, and serving the custom back-office application.

Leveraged to construct all interactive map, bar, and radar charts, enabling dynamic filtering by country, region, year, and dimension for a rich analytical experience.

Used to create an intuitive and simplified interface for client file uploads in the custom back-office.

Employed for controls like custom sliders, comboboxes, and toggle groups, streamlining the client’s ability to manage underlying data content.

working model and team

The project was executed using a lean, dedicated team structure, ensuring close collaboration and focused execution. The core team consisted of a Project Manager, a Product Designer, and a Full-Stack Developer.

Project Manager: Responsible for critical project oversight, maintaining timelines, assisting the Product Designer, and facilitating all client communications and decision-making.

Product Designer: Led the initial research, analysed pain points in the existing PoC, and created a clear, intuitive user flow and a comprehensive, modern GUI design.

Full-stack: Architected and engineered the entire new solution, migrating legacy data, developing both the front-end interface and the back-end logic, and building the custom client back-office for data management.

key results

This project delivered an in-depth understanding of the customer persona and their interaction with the service.

1

Enhanced User Experience: The implementation of a structured user flow, including a new landing page and a clear simulation setup process, has made the platform significantly more intuitive and engaging for all user types.

2

Empowered Data-Driven Analysis: Users can now seamlessly create, manipulate, and download the results of their own custom simulations, providing them with accurate, tangible data for advanced research and analysis.

3

Improved Performance: The modernised tech stack provides a much faster and more efficient environment, ensuring that complex data visualisations and calculations load quickly without frustrating delays.

4

Client Autonomy: The custom-built back-office provides the Eurofound team with full, non-technical control over all content and underlying data, streamlining their workflow and eliminating long-term maintenance dependencies.
