About this project
TeachTutti reached out to Imaginary Cloud for an audit of their video conferencing module, which was built using Twilio for video, chat, and whiteboard functionalities. The goal was to evaluate the module's reliability, security, and performance to enhance user experience and ensure seamless remote tutoring.
Result: Successfully delivered a comprehensive report with 49 findings, each prioritised to guide implementation efforts effectively. These recommendations aimed at enhancing the overall state of the TeachTutti platform.

TeachTutti is a comprehensive online tutoring platform designed to connect students with qualified tutors across various subjects. The platform offers three modes of tutoring: in-person sessions at the student's home, in-person sessions at the tutor's home, and remote tutoring via video conferencing. This flexibility allows students to choose the learning environment that best suits their needs.
Beyond matchmaking, TeachTutti provides an integrated learning experience with built-in scheduling, secure payment processing, and communication tools to streamline tutor-student interactions. The platform supports a wide range of subjects, catering to learners of all ages and academic levels, from primary school to university and professional development. By leveraging technology to enhance accessibility and convenience, TeachTutti aims to make quality education more personalised, efficient, and widely available.

In the TeachTutti Code Audit, our team conducted a thorough evaluation of the platform, ensuring a focused and systematic approach to identifying areas for improvement. We were responsible for the entire audit process, delivering actionable insights through a structured methodology.
Our responsibilities included:
1. Audit planning and execution - We developed a detailed audit plan that outlined the scope, methodology, and timeline, allowing for a systematic assessment of the codebase and identification of key findings.
2. Code Analysis - Our team reviewed the existing code, focusing on best practices, security vulnerabilities, and overall quality. This technical assessment was crucial in providing practical recommendations for improvement.
3. Reporting and recommendations - After completing the audit, we compiled a comprehensive report with prioritised findings and actionable recommendations. This served as a clear roadmap for TeachTutti’s development team.
The audit’s primary focus was on evaluating the video conferencing module, which uses Twilio for video, chat, and whiteboard functionalities. As remote communication is vital for user experience, ensuring the module's reliability, security, and performance was critical.
Along with the module-specific review, we assessed the broader architecture, including a comprehensive code review, production server assessment, and data management evaluation. Our findings covered potential vulnerabilities, server inefficiencies, and data management practices to ensure the platform’s scalability, security, and functionality.

TECHNOLOGIES used

WordPress powers the TeachTutti platform, managing pages, user accounts, and content. Its plugins enable easy feature expansion.
Custom PHP code delivers key features like user login, video calls, and chat, enabling dynamic content and smooth database interaction.
MySQL stores user data and platform activity, offering reliable performance for fast, efficient data handling.

Since TeachTutti was looking for high technical expertise, we followed the Managed Project working model, which included our product-oriented Full-Stack developers and a Project Manager.
Full-Stack Developers: Conducted a thorough code audit of TeachTutti’s video conferencing module, evaluating code quality, security, and performance. They identified vulnerabilities, assessed data management practices, and provided prioritised recommendations to enhance platform reliability and efficiency.
Project Manager: Oversaw the audit process, ensuring clear objectives, efficient execution, and alignment with TeachTutti’s needs. Facilitated communication, structured findings using the Magic Quadrant methodology, and delivered a comprehensive report to guide implementation efforts.
This project delivered an in-depth understanding of the customer persona and their interaction with the service.
Delivered a comprehensive report with 49 findings to improve the TeachTutti platform.
Prioritised each finding to guide effective implementation efforts.
Used the Magic Quadrant methodology to categorise recommendations by impact and effort required.
